Born and reared in the Detroit and environs, Fran earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in that city where she also began her teaching career. She had the pleasure of a long and interesting career in Michigan and Ohio schools, teaching English Literature, Analytical Composition, and Research Writing. She completed her study of photography at the Akron University, adding that discipline to her list of teaching responsibilities.
Fran attributes her early interest in arts and crafts to her mother's encouragement. She did her first jewelry making and painting under her mother's eye. Her mother presented Fran with her first camera. Fran developed into a prize winning amateur photographer, an avid beader, and finally, a devotee of oil painting.
Retirement in Tennessee provided her leisure to take painting classes at Volunteer State College, Monthaven Art Center, and the Tennessee Art League. She has studied with Charles Brindley and Gayle Levee. Fran has shown her work at Monthaven Art Center, at the Tennessee Art Center, at the Franklin City Hall, at Vanderbilt University Club and at various charity events throughout the metropolitan area.
