Artist Statement
I combine my scientific background with my love of nature and color and texture. My art work is evolving from total watercolor to mixed media on layered papers and collage, although I am willing to experiment with most any medium. Even as I begin to explore new methods and media, I retain my love of nature. Subject matter varies from the realistic to the abstract. I am delighted by the beauty of nature and travel with my camera seeking references for studio painting. You can see by the examples below that even though my work continues to change, I can't resist a bit of whimsy now and then.
Below are 6" sq. works using Pebeo Mixed Media. The first row have small pieces of jewelry imbedded in the paint. The 1st and 3rd paintings from the left are on canvas board, then framed. The 2nd and 4th from the left are painted on liquid art panels with a raised edge that holds the paint in. None of these are painted with a brush, but the paint is applied with toothpicks and stir sticks as the paint is sticky and does not flow off a brush.
The 2nd row shows how the different paints push and mingle with each other.
The 3rd row shows different method of application of the Pebeo. The 1st and 3rd paintings from the left show how the paint is contained within lines of resist to form the flowers. The 2nd from the left is a combination of the Pebeo medias
reacting with each other.
The "Van Gogh" is the result of several layers of the paints repeatedly layered after each layer dries, this gives a depth to the bouquet.
