History of Art Seen
Art Seen was formed in March 2001 by a group of painters taking a pastel workshop at The Tennessee Art League in Nashville, TN. When the workshop was over many expressed an interest in continuing to paint together every week. We were “Friday Painters” for a few years until we named ourselves Art Seen. A year after TAL made its move to a new location at 808 Broadway, Nashville, TN, we changed our painting day to Tuesdays in 2006.
The group was originally limited to 9 members because the Poston location had only 9 tables. The group has changed as some have moved on and others have joined to replace them. Three of the original members continue to paint regularly with the group, they are Christine Parachek Marshall, Carol Wiel, and Caryl Witt. The group may have started from a pastel workshop, but the members paint in their medium of choice, whether it be oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, collage, or pastel.
Art Seen has a reputation for quality award winning work, as participants in charitable events, and supporters of the Tennessee Art League and Galleries.
Purpose
To paint with peers on a regular basis to obtain feedback, encouragement and constructive criticism on our work and for the social camaraderie. We also agreed that part of membership in this group would be for members to actively seek out venues for the group to exhibit its work.
As of Sept. 11,2012 Art Seen is meeting every Tuesday at Plaza Art on Middleton St. in Nashville, TN.
Plaza and the Grumpy Old Men group have graciously allowed us to paint with them
